Whether you are planning on big changes, such as painting or replacing floors, or are sticking to the basics, there are fun ways to decorate any nursery to make it the room of your dreams! After all, both you and the baby will be spending plenty of time in the nursery in the years to come, so you want it to be inviting at all times of the day and night!

Choosing a Theme

First things first, you will need to settle on a theme for the nursery. Generally, the theme will determine the colors you choose, such as purple and pink hues for girls and shades of blue and green for boys. If you don’t know the gender of the baby, opt for a neutral theme and color, such as green, yellow or ivory. Keep in mind that while baby themes are certainly adorable, you’re little one will only be a baby for a short time. Try to stick with themes that will still be interesting and fun for your child as he or she enters the preschool and kindergarten years. Great ideas include sports, airplanes, flowers and butterflies.

Sprucing Up

Painting is often the first choice of parents, since it refreshes the walls and offers a bright and colorful room. Yet if you’re not up to painting, choosing wall borders or decals can do just the trick. If you have hardwood floors in the nursery, opt for small area rugs that will provide some warmth in the room, as well as a comfortable area for your little one to play. If it’s in the budget, you can opt for a bedding set that includes matching accessories for the crib, such as a blanket, crib sheet or crib bumper. Windows can be dressed up with valances and be sure to choose blinds that will keep the light out for nap time.

Nursery Lighting

To complete the room, choose lighting that is cozy and comfortable. You may find that two different lights are needed, such as a dim light over the rocking chair and a brighter light for changing diapers.
